The Giant Schnoodle, a hybrid of a Standard Poodle and a Giant Schnauzer, brings the alert and curious nature of Standard Poodle combined with the bold, protective personality of the Giant Schnauzer. They are energetic and love to play. They also tend to forget their size and crawl into your lap to snuggle. They are also incredibly affectionate and gentle with kids making them a plus to have with families with children. Giant Schnoodles have a protective nature and tend to be wary of new people until that person has proven trustworthy. They are a good watch and guard dog and only bark when necessary (bonus!). Giant Schnoodle puppies can are playful, yet calm, by nature. Keeping them mentally engaged helps to keep any puppy boredom at bay... if you're bored, they're bored. As they age, they relax more and don't require as much extensive exercise. Giant Schnoodles are not aggressive and typically get along well with other animals, given time to warm up and initial hesitation, they should become good friends! Socializing is always a good start to prevent them from being overprotective and territorial, which can be a trait from the Giant Schnauzer.
The Giant Schnoodle will typically eat about 4 cups of food per day. A high-quality food is key, real meat should be one of the first few ingredients. Because the Giant Schnoodle is part Poodle, they may develop digestive issues, especially later in life, so good added probiotics and canned pumpkin may be helpful at times. We also provide our dogs with NuVet Plus to fill in all the gaps that they may not get with their usual diet (more information above).
As far as grooming, they will need a good brush a couple times a week and of course a good bath! Who doesn't like to smell good!? They can get shaggy if left unkept, and depending on your Schnoodle's coat, you may want to groom your Giant Schnoodle every 6-8 weeks to help prevent any matting, especially if they take the likeness of the Poodle. Giant Schnoodles have hair, not fur, and don't shed at all! They are notorious for their beards and eyebrows, be sure to have frequent inspections of the beard to make sure food isn't caught in it.
At Gunnie Luv, LLC ourGiant Schnoodle puppies are considered F1b puppies and take the likeness of the Giant Schnauzer, including their coat!
