Clearly, there is a difference between a mutt, a purebred, and a mixed breed. First, let me explain that a “MUTT” comes from more than three unregistered parents of different multiple breeds. A “MIXED DESIGNER” is an intentional cross-breed of purebreds. And a “PUREBRED” has canine registration of the same breed (with no indication of breed quality).
Our dogs at Gunnie Luv, LLC are F1b Giant Schnoodles (75% Giant Schnauzer, 25% Standard Poodle). We exclusively breed our Giant Schnauzer with our Giant Schnoodle.
Let’s talk about the POODLE. Their history is a fascinating journey that spans centuries and continents. The Poodle is rooted in Germany, a.k.a. “Pudel,” during the 1500’s as a water retriever. It was bred from a mix of other dog breeds, such as the Barbet, French water dogs, and German hounds. It descended from this mix of water dogs and working dogs used by hunters. The breed eventually developed over time into three distinct sizes; standard, miniature, and toy; each with unique traits. For example, the curly coated Poodles are originated from the crossbreeding of the Barbet and the Portuguese water dog! Through this crossbreeding of mixed purebred dogs, the Poodle was created! Let’s talk about the Schnauzer… the Schnauzer dates back to the 15th century in Germany! The crossbreed mix between the German Pinscher, the black German Poodle, and the gray Wolfspitz were it’s ancestors. They were bred for the qualities of hunting and guarding. The Standard Schnauzer was bred with smaller breeds, including the Affenpinschers and miniature Pinschers, resulting in the Miniature Schnauzer! The Giant Schnauzer is bred from breeding Standard Schnauzers with larger breeds, including the Great Dane and Bouvier des Flandres. The Giant Schnauzer was created to work and guard. The Giant Schnauzer served in World War I and World War II. (source: iheartdog.com)
